My husband, a PHD level Research Scientist has been laid off from the Pharma industry 4 times in the past two years. Each company either sent jobs over seas, folded, or was bought out. We lost our home & life savings.

He has been keeping himself busy with contract jobs at half the pay. The must haves now are the basics - food, gasoline, healthcare & rent of a small apartment.

We try to keep positive, hoping the economy in all industries will turn around. In Pharma it is still predicted to be years away.

Meanwhile with assistance from family, he is studying Regulatory Affairs, a field that is wide open. At age 52 is is not easy to start out new, but he is not letting that stop him. He is past the depression and now we just roll with the punches.
